You know, aside from a few problems, such as self-immolation, shoddy build quality, and lackluster power, the Pontiac Fiero was a pretty cool car. But nothing as cool as the commercial you’re about to watch. This video makes me want to bring back the 80s in a big, bad way!
This movie requires Flash Player 8

In keeping with GM’s plan to turn Pontiac into the sporty, performance division, the Pontiac Vibe now can be had with a GT badge. Naturally, this would suggest the power and has been improved upon. Unfortunately, GM Source had no details on tech specs, although it has been suggested that it may come with an AWD power train.
All we really have to go by is this official photo of the car, which as far as we can tell, doesn’t look too bad! The sheetmetal is cleaner, and cladding free, with a much more aggressive front fascia and sexy, curvy bodylines.
The official unveiling of the Vibe will take place at the LA Auto Show. There is no word on whether or not the Toyota Matrix, the Vibe’s mechanical twin, will be getting their own high-powered iteration.
Check back to Driver’s Life, as we’ll be expanding on this story as more information becomes available. Click the thumbnail to see the only official photo of the Vibe GT in all its high res glory.

GM sources have let slip that there could be a targa top version of the Pontiac Solstice with production expected to begin as early as January. The targa will come from the same Wilmington plant that the Solstice, Sky, and Opel GT are built. GM refers to the project internally as GMX627, which should have a 2 removable roof pieces, keeping with traditional targa top form.
The targa launch date coincides with the redesign of both the Solstice and Saturn Sky, so one might hope that GM will be redesigning the trunk a bit to accommodate for 2 big roof pieces to be stashed within. GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said that building hardtop versions of the Solstice and Sky would be a logical move, and would certainly go a long way in filling some obvious product gaps. Whether or not a targa top would sufficiently fill this void in lieu of a hardtop remains to be seen. According to Lutz, the targa should look identical to the concept of the Solstice coupe, which was first revealed in 2002. (Pictured in this post)
Production may be limited to as few as 10,000 units annually, and its possible the first debut venues would include SEMA ‘08 or LAIAS ‘08.
There’s been no official word on whether the Saturn Sky will be getting a targa version, but it would make sense since both vehicles are built on the Kappa platform, in the same plant. Furthermore, Sky sales are going up while Solstice sales seem to be dropping.
Keep your eyes peeled to Driver’s Life for updates.
