Question: What exactly is a Car Maintenance Schedule? Why would I have one in my car?
Answer: A car maintenance schedule is a date that your local mechanic has given your car. It means your car will be due for a check-up. This usually means it will need its next oil change.

Answer: Yes, you should change your oil every 5,000 or so miles. More often on an older car. Also make sure to rotate your tires every 10,000 miles or so and check the pressures.
Question: I want to keep my car in the best condition possible. How difficult is it to so my own car maintenance?

Question: What is the typical cost of an old car's maintenance per year? Is it worth it to keep an old car?
Answer: Old cars usually require more money and maintenance than newer cars based on the level of design and availability of your car to be repaired. Probably around 500 dollars is enough.
Question: I just purchased a new car from a dealership in town. The dealership and the manufacturer both gave me car maintenance advice, but the maintenance schedule was different. Which car maintenance advice should I follow? If I don't follow the maintenance schedule of the manufacturer will my warranty still be valid?
Answer: You should follow your 'schedule' for the first few thousand miles, but as long as you keep the car up to specs (the 'spirit' of the law as opposed to the 'letter' of the law) the warranty should be good. Google the Magneson-Moss Act to see what the law says about that. And don't let them buffalo you into the 3,000 mile oil change. That is a long-passe practice, as most petroleum oils will go 5-7K miles, and there is one synthetic which will will go well beyond that. Amortize the cost-versus-mileage and see the savings.
AMSOIL has 3 tiers of full-synthetic oils: an OEM-change (OE) oil, an Extended-range change (XL) and a Signature Series which runs up to 25,000 miles. Be sure to use the extreme-effeciency oil flters, as the synergistic effect of the oil and the filter gives the maximum longevity. Also, see the Tech Bulletins for a couple of years to see whether your new Belchfire 8 has any sludge or other problems which turn up. The best lube and filter products will make sure you get maximum service for the longest time. Learn about fuel injector maintenance, too. That's a factor in overall expense over time.
