Question: I need to replace my brakes. How hard is it to repair brakes?
Answer: It is not too difficult to repair brakes and it can save you a ton of money. Brake pads are the easiest part of the brake system to replace.
Answer: I find replacing brakes quite simple. If you need new rotors, you'll just need an impact screw driver and a heavy mallet or puller. Use the driver to remove the screws that hold the rotor in place, then the puller to remove it. A mallet can also be used, but only if you are sure you are getting a new rotors. To replace the pads, remove the bolts on the caliper that allow it to hinge. Simply remove the old pad, use a c-clamp to push in the piston, and then install the new pads. Replace the bolts, and you are ready to go. Test the pedal for softness, or if there is vibration you may need to bleed the brakes.
